Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph is more natural as a frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999 and goes on a massive worldwide tour. After a few weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and begins recording their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band covering their hit Africa on a recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

Toto came back together for the benefit concert in 2010 to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in 31 years that all of Toto's original members were on stage together. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
